Places to Visit in Mount Abu

Nakki Lake: Situated in the Aravalli ranges in Mount Abu, Nakki Lake, locally known as the Nakki Jheel is a paradise for nature lovers. It is the first man-made lake in India with a depth of around 11,000 metres and a width of a quarter of a mile. Nakki Lake is most popular for boating with two types of boats available, the pedal boats and the Shikharas. This lake is considered as the love lake of Mount Abu since the clean blue waters with verdant surroundings give a romantic feel.

Guru Shikhar: Guru Shikhar is the highest peak of the Aravalli Range and lies about 15 kilometres from Mount Abu. It offers a breathtaking view of the Aravalli range and the hill station of Mount Abu. It is also home to the Mount Abu Observatory. After the 15 kilometre drive, you would need to climb a few steps to reach the top. At the top is an age-old bell with the words '1411 AD' inscribed on it. Ringing that bell after hiking all the way to the peak is like announcing your achievement to the valley of Mount Abu.

Toad Rock: Located south of Nakki Lake in Mount Abu, the Toad Rock is a colossal rock piece which looks like a toad about to jump into the waters of the lake. Brahma Kumaris Ashram: Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University is an international, non-governmental spiritual organization founded by Dada Lekhraj Kripalani in the 1930s, with its headquarters located in Mount Abu. The hill of the Brahma Kumaris is also called 'Madhuban' (forest of honey). The ashram has a museum that displays the knowledge that Lord Shiva gave to Prajapita Brahma. The 50-acre land also provides ample space for meditation and spiritual learning as well as to connect yourself to the stunning, undisturbed natural surroundings.

Trevor’s Tank: Trevor's Tank is a man-made crocodile breeding site and wildlife sanctuary. It is also known as Trevor's Crocodile Park and is a popular picnic spot with picturesque views. Ranakpur: Ranakpur is a small quaint town nestled amid the secluded valley of Aravali Ranges. The walls of the fort stretch over an area of about 36 kms and is one of the longest walls in the world, second only to China’s Great Wall! Built during the reign of Rana Kumbha in the 15th century, Chittorgarh is also one of the largest fort complexes in the world.

Food in Mount Abu

• You must try some gatte ki khichdi which is a special dish of Mount Abu. It is prepared by making dumplings or balls of besan and cooking them in rice with numerous spices like ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, black pepper, cloves etc., green chillies, onions and coriander.
• You must have bajre ki roti; roti made of bajra or pearl millets is served with some garlic chutney and jaggery.
• Pyaaz kachori makes for a yummy snack and is quite popular in Mount Abu. Instead of the usual moong dal and gram flour filling, the kachori is stuffed with onions and spices; it is often eaten along with samosas and mirchi badas.
• Malpua is quite famous here and is basically like pancakes made of milk, khoya, flour and dry fruits that are often served with a layer of milk and thick cream.
• Moong daal halwa is another specialty to try out. This delicacy is prepared by taking moong daal, cooking it in pure ghee and topping it off with dry fruits like almonds.
