Bhuntar is a part of Kullu district and it is typically used as a getaway to the towns of Kullu, Manali, Kasol and Manikaran and Kullu airport also is located within Bhuntar.

Bhuntar is a quaint little town and there's nothing too majestic about the natural beauty it has to offer, but it is your type of holiday destination if you appreciate less tourist-y spots and prefer lesser known spots to relax. Bhuntar has a quaint serenity to it and is considerable away from the maddening tourist crowds of the more famous places in Himanchal Pradesh. Surrounded by lush greenery, this town has temples with splendid architecture and high religious significance. Apart from a few temples a national park and a camping spot, Bhuntar has its silent old worldly charm to offer. Maybe not a tourist destination per se, but if you're looking for a lone individual retreat, you may want to give it a chance.

1. Basheshwar Temple

The Basheshwar temple in Bhuntar is said to have been built by the Pandavas. A beautiful temple with stone carvings all around, it hosts idols of major Hindu deities. The carvings are very detailed an (Read More)d awe-inspiring. Out of the twenty temples in all of Kullu valley, this is the biggest temple of Lord Shiva. The temple is easily distinguishable because of the flatly shaped shikaras.

Head to the Jagannath Temple for a view of the majestic morning there, complete with the ritualistic pooja (prayers) and the early sun dawning on the white expanse. Next, finish the temple journey with the Basheshwar temple, a real marvel set in stone in the silver valley.

Once you're done with the temples, you can have early lunch at a nearby dhabha or restaurant. After that, you can head to The Great Himalayan Park for an afternoon of loitering in the sun with binoculars to spot some rare beauties.

Bhuntar has its airport known as the Kullu-Manali airport. There are two flights daily from Delhi to Bhuntar. However, the only problem is that the airport is not functional at all the times and it is better to check before booking a flight. The best way to reach Bhuntar is via road transportation. You can hire a taxi which you can use to travel in the city. You can also make use of the bus services provided by Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation from the main cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. You can also take a train to Pathankot, Delhi or Chandigarh and continue onwards via taxi or bus.

How to reach Bhuntar by flight

Bhuntar has its airport known as the Kullu-Manali airport. There are two flights daily from Delhi to Bhuntar. However, the airport is not functional at all the times. It takes 1 hour 15 minutes to reach Bhuntar from Delhi. There are flights also available from other major cities like Chennai, Mumbai but are usually very expensive and take a lot of time to reach Bhuntar.

Reaching Bhuntar by road is fairly easier than by any other means of transport. It is only 10 km from Kullu and about 50 km from Manali. HPSRTC (Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation) buses from cities like Jaipur, Delhi and Chandigarh, are available at regular intervals, apart from the usual private car/bus services.

How to reach Bhuntar by train

The nearest railway station for any major city/town in Himachal Pradesh is the Pathankot, about 144 km away from Bhuntar. All the main trains pass through Pathankot including Jammu Tawi and Himsagar Express from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, etc. You can also take a train to New Delhi or till Chandigarh and take a cab or a bus from there to reach Bhuntar.
