America's Next Top Model Might Need Visa

America's Next Top Model

Leave it to Greg Mankiw to find a reason to blog about America's Next Top Model.  Or as he really put it in his headline, "Wanted:  More Beautiful Workers."

This is interesting:  America's Next Top Model or any model that happens to come to the USA to work from a foreign country has to compete with computer programmers and other high-tech workers for a limited amount of government issued H-1B visas.

Where Does The Madness End?

Isn't it enough that these poor girls that make up the select group of "super women" that ultimately become America's Next Top Model have to put up with the indignities of:

  • Learning to walk in shoes that compete with the Empire State Building for height
  • Having other people do their hair and make-up...Can you just imagine
  • Wearing expensive designer clothes--The shame of it all
  • Having your picture taken all of the time
  • Being gawked at by everyone that you happen to pass by
  • Making millions of dollars that you then have to manage

I can't take anymore.  I feel so sorry for these girls.  And now the mere fact that they have to compete with geeks to get a visa...well it just brings tears to my eyes.

America's Next Top Model Should Strike

They should demand and get the following:

  1. The right to keep average people a distance of no less than 50 feet away from them.  This way the air that the models breathe won't be corrupted.
  2. The respect they deserve.  Do you really think it is easy being so beautiful?
  3. Silence and admiration when they enter a room.  Is this asking to much?
  4. A television program where they can show the public what it takes to be a highly skilled narcissist.
