The reason it's so much fun to talk about the eco-friendly inventions and solutions that everybody is coming up with is because nobody knows if these things actually work.

The UK government just made it law that all petrol (gasoline) and diesel must be produced with 2.5% bio and by 2010 that will have to be 5%. So...what if it really does prove to be worse for the environment in the long run to produce all these crops for bio? What then?

db...Good point. Everybody is jumping on the bandwagon because it is the popular and hip place to be. Let the facts be damned. The really sad part is that food prices are now going up which is causing people in poor countries to suffer even more hunger then they were suffering before. But what the hell...as long as our cars run on corn everything is just great. Thanks for writing in....

It's almost been taken as read that we're all doomed because of climate change, whereas most rational scientists have not said that. It's the politicians rubbing their hands with the idea of a carbon tax and business hoping to make a quick buck out of alt energy that is driving us into a frenzied state.
