The Secret of Amanda's 3 Days In San Diego
Amanda could have been a model if she had chosen that path. She is "drop dead" gorgeous. What separates her from all the other "drop dead" gorgeous women walking around Las Vegas is that she has class. It is a relaxed class, she doesn't have to try, it comes naturally to her.
During the entire time that I have known Amanda she has always worn a dress or a skirt. The occasion didn't matter. Where we were going didn't matter. She always dressed and presented herself in a dignified feminine manner. How many women now a days choose to dress and present themselves like that?
Her dresses cover her legs to just below the knee and her tops do not expose very much skin. Yet everywhere we go I can see men stealing a glimpse in her direction. The words that comes to mind when you see her are "refined beauty."
Her hair is always done and her makeup is barely noticeable. Her natural expression is one of happy enthusiasm. It is hard to explain but easy to look at.
Every time that I see Amanda I am reminded that I love her very much. She is kind, loving, and very dear to me.
On the ground floor of the tower where we live is a library. When you pay as much as I did for the penthouse you expect (and you better get) some incredible extras. The library is one of them.
The library is a quiet room, about 2000 square feet in area. It is a place where people who want to get out of their homes to read or just mingle with some neighbors can go and yet not leave the building. It has a high ornately carved ceiling and walls that are covered with dark mahogany wood. There are elegant old world style bookcases that line the walls and that are filled with hard cover classics. The tables that are positioned near the deeply cushioned chairs have newspapers and magazines spread out on top of them.
I often go to the library to read about the money markets, business, Wall Street, and the general news. But on this day I was there to speak with Amanda.
"So tell me about San Diego," I asked with just a little hint of sarcasm. I have to admit I was still just a little upset about the "no phone call" thing. After all, three days is a whole lot of time not be in contact with the one you love.
Amanda hesitated, she gazed at me as if she was trying to read my mind. After what seemed an eternity she finally spoke.
"Paul, there are certain things you don't know about me. There are certainly things about my past that will surprise you once I tell you all there is to tell. I have not always been the person that I am now." She continued, "Paul, I have come to deeply love you. I hope and pray that you love me in the same way."
She was making me nervous and at the same time making me feel very anxious about what she had to say. Of course I did feel pretty good about her saying that she loved me.
It is at times like these when the point really gets driven home and makes me realize that money can't buy everything. No amount of money is going to change Amanda's past. No amount of money can change the fact that I will have to hear her out, and try to understand the what, why, and how of her past. Heck, we all have a past, how bad can it be?
What seems strange to me, and just a little bewildering, is that she feels compelled to divulge her secrets to me. Surprisingly I don't feel that same compulsion to reveal any of my secrets to her at this time.
Amanda licked her lips and started to speak.
